Most affiliate software charges you a percentage of the revenue it helps you make, in perpetuity. That model is defensible when the platform is doing the hard part — recruiting affiliates, running the network, handling payments at scale. It is much harder to defend when the platform is a database and a cookie.

What you actually pay for

A hosted affiliate platform is charging you for attribution, a dashboard, and a payouts integration. All three run perfectly well inside WordPress, next to the shop that generates the orders in the first place.

Your data, your database

Self-hosting means affiliates, referrals, commissions and payout history live in tables you own. You can query them, export them, and take them with you. Nothing is gated behind a plan tier or an export limit.

The trade-off, stated honestly

A hosted platform handles its own uptime, scaling and PCI surface. Self-hosting hands you those. For a programme running on your own shop, on hosting you already pay for, that is usually a trade worth making — but it is a trade, and pretending otherwise would be a sales pitch rather than a reason.
